Over 1.5M people downloaded [Portal], after steam released Mac client & let people d/l [Portal] for free. Didn't reveil how many Win & Mac d/l happened for each, however that hidden news might be important thing for business.
[Portal] is FREE for limited time. There were some similar FREE days event, but they were multiplay-FPS & hook people to buy. [Portal] is short & 1 player game, so player will see ending within that date & forget. [Portal 2] will come out, but far later. So why such an event, all of a sudden?
Steam released Mac client & started selling Mac Games, and this might be notice event for them.
And they started using 'Steamplay' word, which menas 'If you buy 1 game, you could play it with both of Windows / Mac'. In the past, there were some Digital Distribution stores which sold Mac, but that's just 'we have stock' situation. And of course, you must buy those version seperately. This time, Steam started something about Mac games, and game market could be different once again.
Steam posted 'what steamworks will have in 2010' in their homepage. Support Mac, Unreal Engine 3 + Steamworks, those are fun news. But it's shocking to see, steamworks will support 'Microtransaction'.
I thought this picture is drawn by Fanboy or anti-steam guy. I was wrong. This is official.
Of course, DLC is another fashion of Video Game scene. Namco might be best among them, for [Idol Master] & [Tales of Vesperia]. I didn't play those games & not sure exactly, however they didn't sell small sword / tires / hats. This announcement could be more serious, because people might think 'all of each items could be sold seperately for cash'.
DLC / microtransction are not so bad, as I think. However if they sell each small item with 0.99$, that's.... well.... nevermind. I'll not buy.
According to Valve press release, [Portal 2] is coming. Will be released at next holiday, however I'm not sure what holiday it is. (Please make sure Pig-Min is run by Korean, not very familiar with American holiday.)
Suddenly, [Defense Grid : The Awakening] has update for Steam. It's released 2 years ago, last update was over 6 months ago, so I thought it's another Steam error. I was wrong. It was real update for DLC setup.
I think they decide to release DLC in the future, to earn some extra money. However they gave all of us FREE DLC [Borderlands], which has 4 additional maps. I played 2 of them until now, somewhat difficult / but still interesting.
If you have this game at Steam, try it today once again. :)
